Whakapapa Journal
Whakapapa Journal – 28 pages - A4 booklet
This guided journal is designed to help you deepen your connection to whakapapa, marae, pepeha, and whenua. Through thought-provoking questions, creative drawing prompts, space for photos, and opportunities for reflection, this pukapuka supports a personal journey of cultural reconnection and identity exploration. Created to inspire and empower, it celebrates our rich heritage and encourages every Māori to cherish their cultural legacy.
Inside, you’ll find explanations of what whakapapa is and why it is important, along with the key components of pepeha. The journal includes whakataukī for mihimihi, pepeha and mihimihi layouts, and dedicated spaces for whānau lineage, stories, achievements, and history. There are pages to record waiata, haka, karakia, and mihi unique to your whānau or iwi, as well as traditional pūrākau and legends. You’ll also discover a marae diagram, colouring pages that you can add tour own marae kōwhaiwhai and whaikōrero spaces, plus guided reflections on how whakapapa shapes your identity. Finally, whenua toi pages invite you to draw, express, and celebrate the beauty of your place of belonging.
Our Purpose
All of our pukapuka place whakapapa at the heart of the learning journey, helping learners gain confidence in pepeha, mihi whakatau, and speaking te reo Māori. While we acknowledge that iwi across Aotearoa have unique tikanga and traditions, these resources serve as an excellent introduction for those beginning or continuing their journey in Te Ao Māori.
We believe in collective strength—ma te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātou.
